Coming Home

I am on my way! Just finished a foot and shoulders massage at the airport. We are now all waiting to board our Hello Kitty plane and head to Taipei with so many memories of Ho Ch Minh City ( Saigon) and beyond.

Here’s my flight. Here’s my plane. And a few last pics.

Next stop San Francisco and then home sweet home. Thanks for coming along on my Asian vacasion!

Last Day!

We are busier today than two one armed wallpaper hangers. We plan to catch one last museum after we workout at the gym and clean up. I, personally, plan to eat Asian food all day long. I’ll post a few last minute photos tonight and I look forward to being home Easter Sunday.

I’m going to miss Happy hour @ The Blue Gecko! It has been the Saigon version of the American TV show “Cheers.”

I’m coming home!

This trip is coming to a close and I have to say that I am sad. You know I love Asia, and Vietnam and Cambodia did not disappoint. I am borrowing a bit from an advert, but here goes.  If you visit SE Asia you will leave your comfort zone. You will learn to LOVE  fish sauce. You will drink iced tea instead of water and all your ice must have a hole in it.  You will learn to say, Pho and it rhymes with duh. You will drive yourself mad bringing home the best local products and memories. You will eat and eat and eat. You will drink beer with ice. You will laugh your ass off daily.  You may even use a bum gun, but you will not want to  go home!

I’ll add photos in the morning from today. Good night. Sleep well. Alex tells me our kitty, Samantha is acting up. I guess I better come home.😘

Back in Saigon and time is running out!

My trip to the middle of Vietnam, China Beach and Cambodia was a blast. You know SE Asia is in a total boom, but let me tell you that it is largely due to tourism and that has totally worked in our favor. A private driver is given 10 bucks for a hotel and that still includes breakfast. Dot and I chose great lodging, but the prices are still lower than my favorite hotel in Austin during football season. The best thing is they are pushing service to be competitive. This may include services like shoe cleaning, complimentary mini bar and always a international breakfast buffet. Our room in DaNang at China Beach offered two complimentary spa services daily. What is not to like?

If you ever get a chance to go to Cambodia, in a word, GO!

Last night with with teachers on top of the world. We had dinner later at a delicious restaurant dedicated to training street kids.

It is hard to say , “No” to offers to be a long term sub in these schools only because the jobs are so great. No worries, I’ll still be home Easter Sunday and I will be at the Lady 9ers 70’s party and back at yoga. Life without dirt cheap spa services will be an adjustment, but I’ve done it before. I can do it again!

PS Dot talked me into visiting  to Tuol Sleng prison, or S-21 in Phnom Penh where thousands were tortured and killed. I didn’t want to go because I worked with a survivor (motivational speaker) in Singapore and find it horrifying. It was awful. Don’t do that. We met a survivor who wrote a book about his experience. Dot bought the book, had it signed and we both took a photo with him. It was still a huge bummer. Don’t do that.

Yesterday, we were in ruins AKA Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and ,of course, Angelina’s temple Ta Prohm.

The tree on the right was made famous from the movie, Raiders Of The Lost Ark. They now call this Angelina’s temple. They adore her and Princess Diana for the attention they bring to the ongoing problem of lanminds plus she adopted an orphan.

This is a peek of Tonlé Sap Lake the largest freshwater lake in SE Asia. It is by the temples in Siem Reap.

This is Tidot my Vespa driver. This is the best way to cover tons of in and out sights plus she was adorable.

This trip is going TOO FAST!

We’re going to see what they are doing in Cabodia and , of course, delighting in what they eat. My days are few when we return of o Saigon and we still have so much to do. I highly recommend lodging with spa treatments included. The Thai “stretching” yoga inspired massage was a hoot. The exact opposite of restorative yoga, Corine!

We cancelled our Vespa tour to be lazy at the beach, but plan to try one in Siemreap. We will also be visiting friends in Cambodia that are teachers at the International Schools and you know how much I always love that!
